Oh, Howard. I'm screwed up at the other end. Trilateral complete tear of the rotator cuff, requiring surgical repair. Best wishes.

I'd say that, for footwear, it doesn't matter what shoes, so long as you always wear that style for the first few years of playing: the change will feel different, and distracting, until you don't have to think about how to play.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

My feet hurt all the time. To me, more important than the shoe itself is the arched inserts I put in the shoe. I wear Merrell shoes that are low below the ankle. It allows me to twist my foot and ankle to make clean contact with the pedals.

Hi All Socks. My pedal action is so soft I can press the B pedal by curling my little toe while my big toe is over the A pedal. Used to wear cowboy boots then moccasins But that was on my Emmons push pull. That would hurt bare feet! Dave 😃

Sperry Top-Siders. Flexible, low-profile, and thin enough to feel each pedal. These work like a charm for size 14 feet and long legs.

You could say Buddy and me were Boot Buddies (that's where the similarity ended)

Both me and Dicky Overbey; used our Socks to play in.(easier with wide pedals of early shobud and emmons)
We did NOT like the way any and ever shoe and boot; Limited the ankle Movement.
And you can actually feel the pedal moving the string with only your socks on; very Dynamic way of playing.
I'll never go back; and Dicky is still wearing his socks in Heaven.
